Leighton Buzzard, UK: Custom Consoles reports a year of strong demand for its technical control desks across the five market categories which the company addresses: broadcast, network operation control, process control, security/defence and transport. Now entering its 27th year of sustained expansion, the company experienced a particularly high level of business in the broadcast sector with orders from new and existing customers in Britain and around the world.

Broadcast-related projects included the completion of a major upgrade to the parliamentary television facilities for the national assembly of a nation on the European border with Asia. This included Module-R desks and MediaWalls for the master control room and production gallery plus an additional Module-R desk for audio control. Custom Consoles preassembled the desks and MediaWalls at its UK headquarters and delivered them for onsite installation by the system integrator into the studio control suites.

NEP The Netherlands invested in 10 Custom Consoles Module-R technical control desks for a new production facility at its studio headquarters in Hilversum’s Media Park. The installation is designed primarily for television coverage of sports events at locations around the globe.

UK-based technical services provider Timeline Television Ltd selected eight Custom Consoles Module-R desks for integration into the newly completed production control rooms and a sound control room at its Ealing Broadcast Centre. All eight desks include downward-facing LEDs located under the worktops. These provide eye-friendly ambient lighting in otherwise dark control room environments without creating reflections in or near the various monitor screens.

Custom Consoles Module-R technical furniture and MediaWall monitor display mounts were chosen for integration into the production control room at the regional studios of one of Europe’s longest established television and radio broadcasters. Module-R and MDesk-Technical control room desks plus MediaWall monitor displays were also specified for a newly opened 975 square metre production hub in Scotland. Both projects were supervised by Hampshire-based Dega Broadcast Systems.

Module-R technical furniture and MediaWall multiscreen video displays were supplied and integrated into the production control gallery of a European news TV channel. This included a five-operator main production desk facing a 7.5 metre wide MediaWall. Positioned behind these are two additional forward-facing desks for three and four operators respectively.

Module-R and MediaWall were recommended and integrated by CS Media for a newly-completed corporate video production suite at Elekta’s Cornerstone campus in West Sussex. CS Media also chose Module-R desks for a newly upgraded master control room at its own headquarters in Dorking. CS Media has more than 25 years of experience in creating high-end video content for broadcast, digital media and live streams.

Applied Integration, an internationally active provider of robotic, automated guided vehicle and automation solutions, chose Custom Consoles MDesk-Technical desks for a newly equipped demonstration suite at its headquarters in Stokesley, North Yorkshire.

A large Module-R production control desk was created for the Swiss headquarters of an internationally active NGO. The new desk consists of a wing-shaped corner unit for use by a team of three operators.

MDesk Technical was specified as part of an upgrade to the demonstration resources of a global provider of marine traffic safety and security systems. The facility is being used to promote the company’s wide range of coastal monitoring technology to visiting customers.

On the exhibition circuit, Custom Consoles experienced a successful TSE (The Security Event), held from April 5th through 7th at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. The show was chosen as the launch platform for new options in the SteelBase series of control desks. Designed specifically for security and process control applications, SteelBase desks are built around a robust steel frame accommodating a ventilated PC storage compartment with hinged removable access doors at front and rear.

“We have exhibited at many major shows over the years, both in the security and broadcast sectors,” says Custom Consoles Managing Director Neil Reed. “This was our first TSE. Visitor traffic proved good on all three days, both in terms of headcount and in the level of interest shown in our products. The most important factor with any trade exhibition is the amount of potential new business it generates which in this case was very good. We have already booked for TSE 2023.”

September saw the introduction of MDesk-Technical HA, a heavy-duty workstation providing the features needed for the security and broadcast markets. A distinguishing feature is the motorised desktop which can be adjusted in height from 66 cm to 125 cm above floor level. This allows individual operators to choose between working while seated or standing, matching the desktop height to their exact preference. Total lifting capacity is 400 kg. “Height adjustability is particularly appreciated by staff working long shifts,” says Custom Consoles’ Sales Manager Gary Fuller. “This new model was created for a specific project and offers so many advantages that we are confident these will justify its inclusion in our standard production range. As ever, customers have the option of requesting detailed parameters to match their logistical or operational requirements.”

Custom Consoles designs and manufactures project-specific and modular broadcast, process-control and security furniture. Its product range includes motorised and fixed-height desks and equipment housings. The company operates from a UK-based production facility equipped with 3D computer-aided-design facilities and computer-controlled cutting machinery. These resources provide the dual benefits of precise quality control and prompt delivery times, typically 21 days from receipt of order. Custom Consoles’ clients include governmental and corporate organisations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia.
